"The darkest hour is just before dawn…Get ready for sunrise!”
There will be moments in our lives when we experience a darkness that seems to cover any and all crevices of light. It overshadows our knowingness of the power of the one who created us, our Divine God. We question why us? Why now? When will it end? Questions we seek immediate resolve to and direction on how to move forward. But, the answers do not come quickly enough, and we are left to our own human weakness of succumbing to defeat, feeling the darkness surround us like a cloak made of the heaviest wool.
I love it when I awaken in the wee hours of the morning. It seems as though God whispers in my hear, "Kim, wake up...I want you to see something, or hear something..." When I do, I sometimes look out the window and the sky is deepened with the blackest black; void of any depth, just endless blackness. It is eeringly synonomous with the blackness of troubles that cover the skys of our lives. When we are going through tough times and it seems that things are not in alignment with what we desire to experience, we are encompassed with this dark void that can only be described as a black hole.
I know this feeling - it is a familiar spirit that makes unexpected visits to my life every now and again. I know that at any time, this darkness can come again. One of the darkest moments of my life had me defeated mentally, spiritually, and physically. I was involuntarily engaged in a spiritual warfare, and it seemed my enemy attacked from every angle, finances, relationships, work, home, and my self-esteem. One morning during this period, I was awakened by a whisper in my ear, "Kim, wake up...". It was about 5 am, and I immediately noticed how extremely dark the room was, I had to wait a few moments for my eyes to adjust. Even then, it seemed much darker than, say, 1 or 2 in the morning.
I sat on the edge of the bed and waited -- not knowing for what, but I just waited. Slowly, the room began to become illuminated with a haze of light, not bright; just enough to see furniture. Then a few minutes later, brighter still, not blinding, but enough to notice where the doors and footstools were. Then, before I realized it, the sun was peering through the blinds with a full blast of light that blinded me, forcing me to pull the sheers. As I did, the same voice that awakened me an hour earlier, whispered in my ear once more, "Kim, the darkest hour is just before dawn...just wait for the sun to rise, just wait."
The experience was simply God reminding me that HE created both the light and the dark, and that both are allowed equal access in the Universe. The same with life, there will be moments of darkness and moments of light. The lesson, darkness ALWAYS gives way to light --- it's Universal Law and it's absolute. The darkest hour is spiritually and scientifically just before dawn. So, as with this Universal Law, the darkness that befalls our lives must too give way to the light that is eminently on the horizon. We must wait, and watch the sun rise and things will get better. You will know in your situation when you are at your darkest moment; it will seem ALMOST unbearable. You will be left with nothing but a spirit of surrender. You will be completely expended of any zest and your body, mind, and spirit will be beat down and left to die. It is during this time that you MUST sit on the edge of your bed [your life] and wait for it...wait for it...it's coming...there it is the sun, the light, just peering, now brighter, brighter still...AHHHH!!!! There it is...the SUN, the light in all it's glory -- shining brightly upon you!
You begin to feel like Superman when HE is embraced in the warmth of the sun. He becomes invincible, empowered, and ready to fulfill his purpose. So will you...So will you.
During those times when it is very dark, maybe even the darkest you have ever witnessed...know that the sun still shining, somewhere --- maybe in the lives of others, someone close to you, your family, friends...ALLOW their light to shine in your direction and help you see through your own darkness.
