"There is no path that leads to a dead end; you either go right, or you go left. If you don't know which way to go, ask for help...A guide is waiting to assist you."
The day before Thanksgiving...a time when most people are trying to reach their destination to spend time with their families and share in this festive time of year; giving thanks for all the wonderful things the year has brought their way. Or, maybe on their way to the all too crowded shopping malls to catch pre-BLACK FRIDAY sales. In any case, we are all going somewhere.
This morning, I was on my way to Starbucks to meet some friends and just enjoy the day. I was sitting in my car waiting, about to journal a bit before they showed up. A grey car pulled next to me in the parking lot. The lady driving rolled her window down and ask me if I could help her. She had tears in her eyes, and frankly, I was immediately taken by her need. Sometimes, especially during this time of year, there are many cons out there looking to take advantage of the kindess that people show...so, I am ashamed to say, that I was a little guarded - but, I replied, "what is it you need? what can I help you with?" The tears continued rolling down her face and she began to tell me she was lost and needed to find her way back home, to Houston. I thought, "Wow!" she was a long way from home...how in the world did she get that turned around. Nevertheless, I began to explain how she could get back on track, and as I was explaining, I realized -- she is already confused and overwhelmed -- the instructions would only seem more confusing to her. So, I offered to lead her back to the freeway and put her back on the right path home. I assured her she would be okay, there was no need to cry. She immediately calmed down, wiped her tears, and thanked me. I led her to the freeway and waved her on her way with a prayer that God would watch over her during her journey.
After the experience, it was as if God himself said, "See, Kim...even though you may feel lost, I will lead you on the right path and point you in the right direction...all you gotta' do is ask for my help and let me lead you."
